La construcción en alta mar, fuera de costa u Offshore es la instalación de estructuras en un medio marino, generalmente para la producción y extracción de petróleo, gas, energía, electricidad y otros recursos.
La construcción Offshore incluye el diseño, construcción y/o reparación de estructuras, tanto comerciales como militares, que incluyen plataformas submarinas, plataformas flotantes de petróleo y gas y tambien de energía renovable.
La construcción en el medio marino es una actividad difícil y peligrosa. Esta construcción y el pre-comisionamiento se realizan normalmente en tierra o áreas costeras. Para optimizar los costos y los riesgos de instalar grandes plataformas fuera de la costa, se han desarrollado diferentes estrategias de construcción.

En cuanto a los tipos de aparatos de elevación, las grúas que más se utilizan son elevadores pesados con Jib, mástil, Luffing, Submarino …
